Dance without leaving home... and with your own rhythm

David Cascón and Vivian Vera are a dance partner and also married. Eight years ago, when they were just 25 and 23 years old respectively, they opened their own dance school in Barcelona, Dance Emotion, in which they have managed to bring together 800 students. The pandemic forced them to close and start giving classes online through Zoom. Already then they began to think about the idea of having a dance platform and in a few months Rebaila was born, a startup that offers users the possibility of enjoying an online dance academy through multiplatform content. “When we started to think about the idea we didn't find anything like it, only in the US, Steezy, and we loved the idea.

We had been wanting to do something like this for a long time and the pandemic unleashed it," says David Cascón García, co-founder and CEO of Rebaila.

«Thanks to our experience as teachers we managed to make some very good videos. With the mirror model, it seems that you have the teacher next to you”, highlights Cascón. After a few months working on the idea and on the technological part, they launched the platform in January 2021. Throughout the first year they have been investing their own funds and have recently closed a round of 'pre-seed' financing of 225,000 euros, which will be allocated to the strategic promotion of the company. This amount has been achieved thanks to the financial support of the startup accelerators Leanox, Bcombinator and the business angels of Seedrocket, in addition to the investments made by FFF ('Family, Friends and Fools').

The platform is accessed through a monthly subscription of 9.99 euros or an annual subscription of 79.99. They hope to reach the end of the year with 2,000 students and are already planning to make the leap to Latin America, where they have some users, and to the US. The classes are divided into three levels (basic, intermediate and advanced) and disciplines (urban, which represents 65% of the classes, dance and Latin). The profile of its students is mostly female, between 20 and 40 years old. "Some work at home, others are far from the cities and there are also many mothers for whom this platform gives them a lot of flexibility," says the CEO. At the moment it is accessed via the web, but they plan to develop an application.

Among the advantages of learning to dance with Rebaila is the possibility of reproducing the classes in an unlimited way, choosing in which format to view the class (front or rear) and controlling the playback speed.
