Amazon has eliminated the inflatable plastic pads in its distribution network in Spain and has replaced them with packaging paper of 100% recycled and completely recyclable origin, according to what sources from the company have informed Europa Press.

This new measure will apply to items sold directly by Amazon and by business partners using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) services.

In this way, instead of plastic pads, the articles will be packed with packing paper, known as dunnage, which is designed to prevent the movement of the products inside the boxes and maintain the safety and good condition of the goods. themselves.

With this measure, the e-commerce giant continues to take steps in its goal to reduce the use of single-use plastic in its packaging, after replacing plastic bags in deliveries with paper bags and cardboard envelopes in Spain.

.

Amazon's director of customer delivery experience, Olivier Pellegrini, has stressed that "easily recyclable packaging is important" for customers and for the company. "Ending the use of plastic pads is another step towards packaging that can be more easily recycled from our customers' homes," he said.

Since 2015, the American multinational has reduced the weight of packaging by more than 36% and has eliminated more than one million tons of packaging material, the equivalent of some 2,000 million packages.

Amazon has recalled its commitment to improve the sustainability of its packaging, from cardboard boxes to flexible paper bags, which is why it has adapted the size of the packaging to the products to use a smaller amount of material, and has increased the recycled content used in its manufacture.

Amazon's packaging programs also encourage sellers to package their products in easy-to-open, 100% recyclable packaging ready to ship to customers without the need for additional packaging from the company.

From Amazon they have urged commercial partners that do not use their distribution network - and that, therefore, are responsible for their own packaging solutions - to use more sustainable packaging.

However, it is still possible that for various reasons some of the company's customers receive their orders with the plastic packaging used up to now.
