Agricultural fair: 300,000 guests at the Green Week in Berlin

The first public edition of the International Green Week after the Corona pandemic ended this Sunday in Berlin. Around 300,000 visitors came to the agricultural fair at the Funkturm over the ten days, as the organizers announced on Sunday. "We have achieved our goal and have shown that the 87th edition of the leading global trade fair for food, agriculture and horticulture inspires enthusiasm and appeals to trade and private visitors alike," said Dirk Hoffmann, head of the trade fair.

Exhibitors and organization had previously expressed their satisfaction with the course of events. "We get feedback that sales are above expectations," said trade fair project manager Lars Jaeger. The trade fair business, which goes beyond the visitor business, is also going well.

The most important trade fair for agriculture

The most important leading trade fair for German agriculture took place with an audience for the first time since the pandemic. For ten days, visitors could admire cows, sheep and horses and eat and drink their fill of regional specialties from numerous federal states and countries.

Due to the expected lower number of visitors - in the years before the Corona crisis an average of around 400,000 people had come - the area was reduced somewhat this year. For the visitors, the distances were therefore shorter and the trade fair clearer, said Jaeger.

In the coming year, however, the Green Week is likely to be larger again. Baden-Württemberg, as an important agricultural state, was not there this year, but had already announced its participation for 2024, emphasized the project manager. Schleswig-Holstein will also be represented again.

Also a success in terms of content

In terms of content, those responsible also rated the fair as a success. "The intensive discussions and the direct exchange have shown how important this platform is for our industry," said the President of the German Farmers' Association, Joachim Rukwied. "In numerous talks and discussions, we emphasized that climate protection, the preservation of biodiversity and food security must be thought of together and integrated into agricultural policy." Exhibition Director Dirk Hoffmann said: "For Messe Berlin, the International Green Week was a dream start to the new exhibition year."

There was also a program for the visitors on the last day of the fair, this Sunday. The horse show Hippologica offered jumping competitions and obstacle driving for pairs as part of the Green Week.
