Technologies for containment : the exception française - The Point

This is a surprising result that the book survey by Odoxa, commissioned by the oem telecom Huawei. Conducted on a sample of 3 000 people in Italy, Spain, Germany, Great Britain and France, it confirms the special role played by the digital in the containment. Thus, the majority of Europeans consider that the technologies have been an asset both on the health plan (86 %), economic (75 %) and social (65 %). Yet compared to its european neighbours, "France seems to be the least confident in the new technologies to solve our problems," says Gaël Sliman, president of Odoxa, who has piloted this study.

"The French are, by far, the last to think that the development of new technologies will limit the social fractures and territorial governments : France is the last, 12 points below the european average," notes the study. Another surprise : France is the last place (ahead of Italy) of countries perceived to be conducive to innovation according to their inhabitants : it has 8 points behind the european average and 18 points on the Great Britain. Moreover, only 14 % of French, compared to 21 % of Germans, 32 % of Italians, 35 % of Britons and 36% of Spaniards believe that innovations will help humanity recover from this crisis. In addition, 82 % of the French believe that the technology will find treatments, vaccines, to protect us from this virus, while this proportion is 90% in the Uk, 91 % in Spanish, and 85 % of Germans. This "pessimism" is echoed in a survey of Jin-Opinion Way, published this week in The Point , and which notes that only 19 % of the French feel more comfortable with the use of the Internet since the beginning of the containment, compared to 26 % of Germans and 34 % of the inhabitants of the United Kingdom.

It must be said that 17 % of the French consider that they have a bad connection to the Internet (compared to 16% for the rest of Europe). And the white areas, that is to say areas where the connectivity is very poor or non-existent, concern 4 % of the French, that is 2 million people, against 2% in the rest of Europe. Result : "The fact that we are lagging behind in terms of connectivity, explains the lower trust of the French, to solve our problems," says Gaël Sliman. "It is a matter of importance, then, are called upon to develop the telework, telemedicine, or even the télédiagnostics ", full of his side, Minggang Zhang, deputy general manager of Huawei France. Admittedly, this study is a way for the oem to recall the crucial role he would like to play with this technology. However, coronavirus requires, the licensing of the 5G could be deferred for a few months in France.
