On the evening of Monday, 8 June, several inmates of the prison of Metz-Queuleu, Moselle, have been forced to leave their cells after the discovery of cracks in the floor of one of the buildings. According to the prefecture of Moselle, it is a matter of "several cracks about 6 inches and a subsidence of approximately 10 centimeters of the ceiling plate," reports France 3 Grand Is. The building affected is on two floors, and includes the infirmary and the regional medico-psychological service. Work had been engaged for several months.
The evacuated inmates, 53 in number, were transferred to another building of the prison, as well as in the prisons of Nancy and Epinal, according to Franck Rassel, regional secretary FO-Prison, joined by France 3. No injuries is deplorable. A crisis cell has been set up.

According to the executive, when questioned by The Express, " a expertise was called in to identify the origin and extent of the disaster ". The latter could be due to an earthquake not felt. Initially feared by the administration and the guards, a collapse of the building is not finally expected, according to the Bureau of geological and mining research (BRGM), Nancy, reports France 3. Significant work will be required however. The prison of Metz-Queuleu currently has 448 inmates.
