Wil Lutz announces that he has been cleared by his doctor

The Saints struggled to replace Wil Lutz in 2021. They had to go through many kickers, as Lutz was unable to play the entire season after undergoing core muscle surgery.

They will have him back in 2022.

Lutz posted on Instagram Monday that he was medically cleared to return.

"After 11 months of multiple surgeries and setbacks .... I'm officially cleared!" !" Lutz posted. "No words can describe how difficult these 11 months were mentally and physically. But it has given me a new perspective and motivated [to] get back on the right track. There is still much to do, but I'm excited to be back on the field and helping this team win games. !"

Lutz hadn't missed a single game since he signed with the Saints in the first half of 2016. Lutz scored 23 of 28 field goals in 2020 and 57 of 58 extra points in 2020.

He has reached 86.6 percent of career field goals, 97.3 percent of extra points and sent 66.4% of his career kickoffs to touchbacks. In 2020, that rate was 75.5 per cent.

At kicker, the Saints also have an undrafted rookie John Parker Romo.
