Weather: Winter is back - accidents and school failures

Winter has returned to parts of Germany and has resulted in many road accidents. In Würzburg in Bavaria, there were significant delays and cancellations in bus services on Wednesday morning, as the local transport and supply company announced. "The buses only run occasionally. There is so much snow that it is impossible to get through," said a spokeswoman.

In some regions of Lower Franconia, classes in schools were also canceled. According to the Bavarian Ministry of Culture, this affected the city and district of Würzburg and the district of Kitzingen. However, the students are not automatically guaranteed a day off: the schools can decide individually about distance learning.

As early as Tuesday evening, roads in Schleswig-Holstein turned into slippery tracks. At least two people were seriously injured and several cars damaged in slippery accidents in the north-east of the state. The police recorded a total of 21 accidents in the areas around Kiel and Flensburg.

The German Weather Service (DWD) expected snowfall and ice in several regions of Germany. In the southern Black Forest on the Feldberg up to 100 centimeters of snow fell in some places, in the northern Black Forest around 25 centimeters, said a DWD spokesman. In Saxony, up to ten centimeters of fresh snow was expected nationwide by the evening.
