Weather: Unusually mild temperatures in the south

The weather in Germany will initially remain divided, with lots of sun in the south and southwest and more mixed and sometimes stormy weather in other parts of the country. In addition, it remains unusually warm in many places.

Between an extensive storm low over Scandinavia and a strong subtropical high pressure cell over the central Mediterranean, unusually mild air masses would flow, especially in the south and center of Germany, "so that by Wednesday there will be no sign of winter," says meteorologist Helge Tuschy from the German Weather Service ( DWD) on Monday in Offenbach.

Today's Shrove Monday it will remain changeable in the north and east, especially in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania it will rain for a long time. North of the central low mountain range there can be a strong gusty to stormy south-west to west wind. Storm gusts also occur repeatedly, particularly in the German Bight and from Rügen to Berlin. Between Flensburg and Cuxhaven as well as on Rügen, heavy gusts of wind and sometimes hurricane-like gusts are expected on the Brocken. The maximum values are between 8 and 12 degrees. On the other hand, the day is particularly pleasant south of the Main, often sunny in the afternoon. With 12 to 17 degrees, it is unusually mild for this time of year.

Tuesday brings a lot of sun in the south and southwest with few clouds. Otherwise the sky will be variable or very cloudy and there may also be some rain in the north-east. The maximum values are 10 to 15 degrees. In the southern foothills of the Alps and in Breisgau it can even be around 16 degrees, at the sea it stays a little fresher at 8 degrees. In addition, moderate westerly winds are blowing, in the mountains, on the coasts and in the east, strong to stiff gusts are sometimes expected.

With the exception of the north-east, Wednesday begins mostly friendly and dry. However, according to the forecasts, cloud cover from the west will increase in the course of the morning and light rain will set in in the west in the late afternoon. Otherwise it stays dry. In the northeast, the sky will be cloudy to overcast throughout the day, with a few drops of rain falling. "The wind blows weakly from the south to the south-east and ensures a very mild Wednesday across Germany with maximum values of 10 to 15 degrees, in the north-east around 9 degrees," says meteorologist Tuschy.

On Thursday, the weather in the east and south will be cloudy and rainy in many cases. Otherwise increasingly variable cloudy and showery weather, with decreasing precipitation. According to the DWD, it will remain mild with maximum values between 7 and 13 degrees. A weak to moderate wind will blow.
