Weather: Fantastic weather with late summer warmth

From the coast to the Alps, the last weekend in October brought some late-summer dream weather to the people. With announced temperatures of up to 27 degrees Celsius on Sunday in the foothills of the Alps, even swimming was announced in some places - for example in Munich in the Eisbach.

Nationwide, the sun lured people to beer gardens, parks or the great outdoors. But with October, the high autumn temperatures also say goodbye at the beginning of the new week.

Record values for October

Record values were reached at some weather stations on Saturday, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Sunday. In Stötten, which belongs to Geislingen an der Steige, 25.2 degrees were measured, said Markus Bösel from the DWD, referring to preliminary data. This is the highest October value recorded since this station was set up southeast of Stuttgart in 1947. The other stations, where record values were registered at the weekend, were set up much later. If you look at the last third of October, which begins on October 21, then a new high of 26.2 degrees was recorded in Munich on Saturday for this period.

According to the DWD, temperatures in Lower Saxony should climb up to 23 degrees on Sunday, in Saxony-Anhalt values of up to 25 degrees were predicted. Whether the ending month was actually the warmest October since records began in 1881 should become clear as the week progresses.

But with October, at the beginning of the week, the unusually high autumn temperatures also come to an end. "But we are still a long way from night frosts or even maximum winter temperatures," explained Bösel from the DWD. On Monday, after the fog and high fog have cleared, it won't be as sunny as in the past few days.

It's getting a little cooler

"It might rain a few drops in the northwest, otherwise it will remain dry." It will be mild again with maximum values between 15 and 20 degrees, up to 22 degrees are possible on the north sides of the southern low mountain ranges, on the edge of the Alps.

On Tuesday there may be some rain in some places with changing clouds, in the afternoon it will be largely dry in the north-west, east and south-east according to the forecast. The maximum temperatures are expected to reach 15 to 20 degrees.

Regardless of the mild weather, summer time ended on Sunday night: clocks were turned back from 3:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Winter time will apply again until the end of March - it will be light an hour earlier, but also darker earlier. In the extreme west of Germany, the sun will set at around 5.10 p.m. at the beginning of winter, in the east on the border with Poland even a good half hour earlier.
