Warning strike: rail traffic in the north-east is slowly starting up again

Rail traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is slowly starting up again after the nationwide warning strike. Operations had been largely paralyzed since midnight. "Regional traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania partially started up again in the afternoon. However, restrictions are still to be expected," said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn on Monday evening. Trains are only available with a delay, especially for long-distance regional transport routes.

The Odeg private railway also reported that train services would be gradually resumed, but the duration could not be estimated. According to the company, it was not directly struck, but the warning strike by the dispatchers of DB Netz AG had an effect.

Deutsche Bahn also said: “After the EVG strike on Monday, Deutsche Bahn expects largely normal operations on Tuesday morning.” Both long-distance and regional trains as well as the S-Bahn are to run as scheduled for the most part.

Buses and trams in the northeast were not affected. Rostock's overseas port was also largely spared. There were no serious impairments, a spokesman said. Problems like in Hamburg - which had to close its port for container ships due to a lack of pilots - did not exist in Rostock. According to the information, however, it cannot be ruled out that companies in the port were restricted in their work due to the warning strike.

The large-scale warning strike by the railway and transport union (EVG) and Verdi paralyzed parts of public transport nationwide. Long-distance and regional rail transport, local transport in many federal states and municipalities, almost all German airports, waterways and ports as well as motorways are affected.

The Greens in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania showed solidarity with the strikers. Municipal employees are central to the functioning of our society. "The current warning strike - and every crisis - shows very clearly what would not work without these people," said state chairwoman Katharina Horn.
