A 79-year-old driver was seriously injured when attempting to overtake on the island of Rügen. He was on the L30 in the direction of Glowe on Thursday afternoon and wanted to overtake a truck, the police said. When both vehicles were at the same height, the semi-trailer truck got into the left lane for reasons that are still unclear. The vehicles collided sideways - and both came off the road.

The car overturned. The 79-year-old suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A rescue helicopter took him to the Greifswald Clinic. His 78-year-old passenger and the truck driver suffered minor injuries. The L30 was closed for around two and a half hours while the accident was being recorded and the vehicles were being recovered.
