The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has returned this Saturday to the capital of Ukraine, kyiv, in a new unannounced visit after the one she starred in April, a few days after the community institution issues its opinion on the country's candidacy for accession to the European Union.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has returned this Saturday to the capital of Ukraine, kyiv, in a new unannounced visit after the one she starred in April, a few days after the community institution issues its opinion on the country's candidacy for accession to the European Union.

“It is good to be back in kyiv”, Von der Leyen made known on his Twitter account upon his arrival in the capital, where he hopes to “take stock” with the country’s president, Volodímir Zelenski, “of the joint work that is needed for the reconstruction of the country', as well as 'the progress made by Ukraine on its European path'.

"Europe is with you!", Von der Leyen's message has finally clinched in a last sentence written in the Ukrainian language.

The Commission will present its opinion on Ukraine's request to join the European Union at the end of next week.

On Monday, the College of Commissioners will have a first orientation debate on the candidacy and on Friday it will meet again to adopt the final text with the opinion of Brussels, a necessary preliminary procedure for the Heads of State and Government to discuss in their summit on June 23-24 if they grant candidate status to this country.
