Volleyball Bundesliga: Netzhoppers fail in the semi-finals of the Bounce House Cup

The Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee volleyball players missed the final of the Bounce House Cup in Hildesheim. In the semi-finals of the three-day preparatory tournament with all eight Bundesliga clubs, the Brandenburg team lost to runners-up VfB Friedrichshafen 3-1 (28:26, 27:29, 19:25, 15:25) despite a courageous performance. In the game for third place, coach Tomasz Wasilkowski's team will meet the losers of the Berlin Volleys game against SVG Lüneburg on Sunday (5:00 p.m.).

The Netzhoppers got off to a promising start against the team from Lake Constance. Even when the team around veteran Dirk Westphal had to accept a 2:9 point series after a 14:11 lead, they fought back. The Brandenburgers used their second set ball thanks to a block by the American Max Chamberlain to lead the set 1-0.

Even after that, the Netzhoppers remained at eye level with the favorites. In the extension of the second half, however, they failed to embarrass VfB even further after Theo Timmermann had won a point to make it 27:26. Friedrichshafen had the better end in this section with the fifth set ball and 29:27.

It was only when the Netzhoppers lost their strength and thus their concentration that the record champions from Friedrichshafen regained the control of the game they had expected, but without being completely convincing.
