Verdict: Man goes to rescue workers: Eleven months suspended sentence

A 73-year-old has been sentenced to eleven months' probation for insulting and injuring rescue workers during an operation. In an appeal process on Monday, the Frankfurt Regional Court increased the district court's original sentence of eight months. Not only the defendant, but also the public prosecutor's office had appealed against the first instance decision.

In the incident in October 2017, paramedics were called to the S-Bahn station at Frankfurt Central Station, where a man fell on the escalator. The accused, who happened to be present, refused to leave the scene of the accident. Instead, according to the court's findings, the pensioner became abusive and pushed the paramedics in such a way that they fell and injured themselves.

The man denied the allegations in court. However, numerous witnesses confirmed the prosecution's version. The Criminal Appeals Chamber adhered to the prosecutor's request for the sentence. In addition, the court imposed a condition of probation of 500 euros, which the accused has to pay to a medical aid service. The verdict is not yet legally binding. Before the announcement, the man had already left the courtroom.
