In Germany, domestic flights are usually only relevant for particularly busy business people or politicians, but in the USA - a geographically much larger country - they are not that unusual. For example, if you want to travel from New York City to Los Angeles, i.e. across the United States, you also need to travel six hours by plane.
A US airline has now prepared a special offer for such cases: it sells a flat rate for domestic flights. The low-cost airline Frontier Airlines offers unlimited flights across the country for a year for $599. For passengers, the offer could be worthwhile from the very first trip, especially if they want to book at short notice. Includes Puerto Rico, a territory of the United States.
The flat rate is "a great opportunity for people with flexible schedules who can board a flight at short notice and take advantage of the huge number of aircraft seats that remain empty each year," said Barry Biffle, the airline's CEO.
In addition, the flat rate does not apply every day of the year. For example, if you want to fly right before or after Christmas, you have to buy a regular ticket. Whether the flat rate makes sense for travelers depends heavily on their needs and habits. But one thing is also certain: the model should not be particularly climate-friendly in any case.
