USA: Amazon parcel deliverer found dead in garden - apparently bitten to death by two dogs

In the small town of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, an Amazon package delivery man was reportedly bitten to death by two dogs. Concerned neighbors had called the police because the van was parked in front of a house for several hours.

Officials found the man's body on the lawn of the house around 7 p.m. Monday evening, according to several US media reports. Accordingly, the police said that they met an English mastiff and a German shepherd at the scene, who behaved aggressively towards the rescue workers before eventually withdrawing into the house.

After an initial investigation showed that the man had suffered bite wounds, the officers decided to shoot the dogs. The owners were not present, it said. So far, authorities have not confirmed that the dogs killed are responsible for the death of the Amazon supplier. However, the sheriff said the man's wounds indicate he was mauled by an animal.

In a statement released by Amazon, the company expressed its regret over the driver's death. "We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving a member of our Amazon family tonight and will offer our support to the driver's team and loved ones," the statement said, according to ABC News. "We support the law enforcement authorities in their investigations."

Dog attacks on package delivery people are not uncommon in the United States. According to the US Postal Service, more than 5,400 postal workers in the United States were attacked by dogs in 2021 alone. In August, a 61-year-old Florida postal worker was attacked by five dogs and killed after her vehicle stalled.
