Ukraine war: Klitschko: Ukraine future as part of the European family

At the Young Union's Germany Day, the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, emphasized his country's intended EU accession. "We see our future as part of the European family," said Klitschko in a video message recorded at the event in Fulda on Friday evening. At the same time he declared: "This is not a war, this is a genocide." Russia is trying to cut off water and electricity supplies to the Ukrainian population. More than one and a half million residents in Kyiv and more than ten million people across the country are already without electricity. "Putin wants a Ukraine without Ukrainians." The situation becomes particularly critical when winter comes with temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius.

People still wanted to stay in Ukraine. "This is our home, these are our cities, our families, our children," said Klitschko. "Our common goal is to bring peace back to Europe." Defense weapons are needed for this. One defends not only Ukraine, but also common values. Klitschko concluded with the words: "Together we are tens of times stronger. Support for Ukraine is a key to peace in Europe."
