This week the deadline to apply for the youth rental bonus in Catalonia has opened, an aid of a maximum of 250 euros per month for two years that the Government has recently activated and that each autonomous community will manage. The measure, highly anticipated among a group that has difficulties accessing housing, is intended for young people between 18 and 35 years of age who are renting a flat or room or who are willing to have one.

The call to ask for help was activated on June 8 and is open until June 17 at 5:00 p.m., although on its first day in just two hours they were already exceeded. If Catalonia has been granted an item to cover some 9,600 subsidies, 24 hours after the opening of the process there were already 19,000 applications registered with the Catalan Housing Agency, sources from the Government explain to ABC.

“In a few hours we have far exceeded forecasts. Irresponsible expectations have been generated. The resources that the government allocates to this measure are clearly insufficient“, the Minister of Social Rights, Violant Cervera, complained on Wednesday on the first day of the process. The Generalitat complains, among other issues, that the conditions of these aids contemplate that they be granted by non-competitive competition, that is, that the applications are theoretically processed and resolved in order of presentation in the registry, provided that the application and the documentation are complete and until the exhaustion of available funding.

Although in a few hours the avalanche of requests collapsed the aid, the deadline to request this bonus, however, is still open and the Generalitat trusts that the Government will expand the budget for the cause and that it does not have to grant the aid based on the order of petition, but taking into account other types of more economic-social criteria. Thus, while waiting for it to materialize if the call changes, those interested can make their request.

The requirements to obtain the aid are to be registered in the dwelling at the time of submitting the application and to prove a source of regular income with maximum annual limits of between approximately 22,500 and 24,300 euros and that during the last six months at least three have worked or there is a half-year employment contract. If the flat is located in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Barcelona, ​​its rent must be a maximum of 450 euros per room or 900 euros per flat.

The best way to carry out the procedure is online, through the website of the Housing Agency of Catalonia, for which a digital certificate or IdCAT Móbil is required. If not, it can also be done in person at the Housing Offices, preferably by appointment. Payment will be made by bank transfer.

At the documentation level, all interested parties must present the rental contract, the receipts for the rent paid during 2022, documents that justify your income and a bank transfer sheet or the equivalent document with bank details. If the request is made electronically, it must be submitted in .PDF format.
