Turkish Airlines: 11-year-old girl suddenly faints on plane and dies

A little girl has died on a flight from Istanbul to New York. As reported by several media, the incident occurred on a Turkish Airlines plane on Sunday.

Accordingly, the eleven-year-old felt uncomfortable and became unconscious. The cabin crew asked over the on-board loudspeaker whether there were any doctors on board.

According to media reports, a doctor was present who tried to save the child. The plane then made an emergency landing in Hungary at around 10:30 a.m. "As a doctor among our passengers took care of the situation and performed cardiac massage, our cockpit crew performed an emergency landing at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport," USA Today quoted a statement from Turkish Airlines as saying.

Upon landing, medical staff at Budapest Airport were briefed on the incident. The rescue workers boarded the plane to treat the child. Unfortunately, as the airport said in a statement, despite the quick and professional intervention, the girl's life could not be saved.

The girl's relatives got off the plane in Budapest, while the flight continued on its scheduled route a few hours later, sources said. The plane landed in New York after a four and a half hour delay, the airline said.

It is unclear what caused the little girl and which country she came from. "We offer our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones and share their pain," Turkish Airlines said.
