Train: freight train derailed: leaked two tanks with alcohol

At the Saarbrücken freight station, six wagons of a train derailed on Tuesday, which, among other things, was transporting tanks with an alcoholic liquid. According to the fire brigade, two of these containers were so badly damaged that some of the liquid leaked out. The charge was declared as a wine product, said a fire department spokesman. Each tank has a capacity of almost 30,000 liters.

There was therefore no danger to people or the environment. All other tanks remained undamaged. According to the fire department, the accident resulted in “not inconsiderable property damage”. Deutsche Bahn secured and rescued the freight train, which was 482 meters long. According to the federal police, the train came from Forbach in France. There was no information on the cause of the accident on Tuesday.

A railway spokesman said the marshalling yard in Saarbrücken was currently closed. Therefore, there are impairments in freight traffic. Passenger traffic is not affected.
