"The Walking Dead: Dead City": The start date for the spin-off has been set

Not long now and the extensive "Walking Dead" universe will be richer by a chapter. As has now been revealed via the official Twitter account for the series, the first of the newly planned offshoots is due in less than three months. On June 18, 2023, "The Walking Dead: Dead City" will be launched in the United States at AMC and AMC. A timely broadcast in Germany - as was the case with the main series via Disney - can be expected.

The spin-off "Dead City", announced as a mini-series, will unite an unequal duo: The well-known characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan, 41) and ex-super villain Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, 56) will be the focus of it. It said: "Years have passed since we last saw Maggie and Negan. They must form a delicate alliance to complete a dangerous mission." As a reminder, Morgan's character was introduced with the brutal murder of fan-favorite Glenn (Steven Yeun, 39) - the husband of Cohan's character.

"Dead City" is just one of several new "Walking Dead" formats. The series “Daryl Dixon”, in which Norman Reedus (54) returns as the eponymous warrior, has also been announced for this year, although with no specific start date.

And the eagerly awaited "The Walking Dead" return of the former main actor Andrew Lincoln (49) is now officially in the making. At the end of February this year, it was announced that filming had begun on the spin-off mini-series starring Lincoln and Danai Jekesai Gurira (45). "Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira are back on set! The next chapter in Rick and Michonne's story begins..." it said at the time of two pictures from the set.

The story of ex-cop Rick Grimes, played by Lincoln, was originally intended to be completed in three feature films. Instead, a six-part spin-off series was announced at Comic-Con 2022. On the show, Michonne finds herself searching for her missing love, whom she had long thought dead. Actress Gurira left The Walking Dead in season ten, while Lincoln left in season nine.

The main series came to an end on November 20, 2022 and after eleven seasons. It was also recently announced that the first spin-off called "Fear the Walking Dead" will come to an end after its eighth season, which is due in May this year.
