The University of Valencia dismisses the director of Language Policy for "sexist comments" on social networks

The rector of the University of Valencia, Mavi Mestre, dismissed Ferran Suay as director of the UV Languages and Linguistic Policy Service this Thursday with "immediate character", after his "unacceptable and sexist" comments published on his social networks.

Mestre, who has described these demonstrations in this way in a statement, to which Europa Press has had access, has defended that this behavior "should not occur in a public and democratic university like ours, which is committed to equality." Suay exercised until this Thursday the direction of the Service of Languages and Linguistic Policy of the University of Valencia.

After learning about the content published by Suay, the rector pointed out that this "macho behavior" is "totally unacceptable not only in the university government, but should not occur in a public and democratic university like ours, which develops a great commitment to the equality of people.

The academic entity has highlighted that during Mestre's mandate there has been an "important advance" in equality policies, as well as in "coordination with the Generalitat for the development of actions that favor equality, diversity and the protection of women".

Ferran Suay Lerma, full professor in the Department of Psychobiology at the University of Valencia, was appointed director of the Language and Language Policy Service following the re-election of the rector of the University of Valencia, Maria Vicenta Mestre, last March.

His appointment, within the framework of "the renewal of different management levels" of the University of Valencia, was based on his "long career as a defender of Valencian and linguistic diversity, his participation in international associations and defense of the language and Valencian culture, as well as its research activity in this field”, points out the academic entity.
