The Plenary Session of the Constitutional Court has agreed to admit the unconstitutionality appeal filed by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, against the Law on Hunting and Sustainable Management of Hunting Resources in Castilla y León (2021), in relation to the wolf north of the Douro River.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) publishes this Thursday the order of May 11 of the Constitutional Court in which it admits the appeal of unconstitutionality number 2527-2022, promoted by the President of the Government, against article 38, sections 2. a) and 8; appendix I.3, section "Wolf (Canis lupus): north of the Duero River"; annex II.4.f) and annex IV.2, section "Wolf (Canis lupus). 6,000 euros both sexes", of Law 4/2021, of July 1, on Hunting and Sustainable Management of Hunting Resources of Castile and León.

At the beginning of April, the Government presented an appeal of unconstitutionality against the Hunting Law of Castilla y León since this autonomous norm considers the wolf as a hunting species, that is, capable of being hunted.

This measure was adopted despite the fact that on October 1 the bilateral commission that brings together the Government and the Board began negotiations to resolve the discrepancies and agreements were reached on some matter, but not with regard to the wolf and its consideration.

The inclusion of the wolf in the List of Wild Species under Protection Regime (Lespre) implies extending the protection of this species to the north of the Duero River and preventing its hunting, which has been rejected by the Junta and by livestock organizations of Castilla y León , and from the northern communities such as Asturias, Galicia and Cantabria.
