The Russian Foreign Ministry has summoned the Spanish ambassador in Moscow, Marcos Gómez, first thing this Wednesday, according to official sources from the Spanish Foreign Ministry. The meeting has not yet taken place, it will take place throughout the day.

Predictably, this may be the previous step to communicate the expulsion of members of the staff of the Spanish Embassy in Russia. Already at the time, Spain expelled Russian diplomats accredited in Spain, a decision that was also made by other countries such as France, Italy or Germany.

Moscow has not yet expelled Spanish diplomats, although it has done so with personnel from other embassies whose countries have ordered the departure of Russian diplomats from their territory.

On April 5, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, announced the expulsion of 25 diplomats from the Russian Embassy in Madrid

, among whom Ambassador Yuri Korchagin was not included. Already then, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova, pointed out that "all decisions of this type will have a corresponding response."
