The PP of Castilla y León hopes to have the mayors in September

The general secretary of the PP, Francisco Vázquez, assured ABC that he trusts that the candidates from the provincial capitals will be appointed at the beginning of September. As he pointed out, the regional leadership of training has already contacted the national one and is now in talks with the provincial ones to refine the lists. Vázquez explained that the objective is to choose the "best" with the intention of obtaining seven of the nine capitals, that is, adding six to Salamanca. The number two of the PP recognized that they are aware of the difficulties of adding Soria and Zamora where "the left governs with an absolute majority." For the rest, he is convinced that it will be possible, after the debacle of the 2019 elections in which the popular only managed to keep one Mayor's Office, that of Salamanca.

What he does not want to hear about is that the comeback occurs thanks to the sum of Vox's votes. “We aspire to govern alone” and he argued that “there is still a long way to go”, given the possibility that the model of the Board of a PP-Vox Government will be repeated. “We will try not to,” he sentenced.

Regarding the fact that on May 28, 2023, only the town councils will be voted for the first time (except for a monumental surprise) and not also the regional ones, as has happened until now, Francisco Vázquez does not believe that it is a detriment to the PP because "the municipal elections are different and if there is a lot of participation, as there was in the regional ones, it will not affect us that they are alone."

In the PSOE, the process for electing candidates is more complex since, even when the option is clear (as is the case in the capitals where it governs), technically the primary process has to be opened, which, if not If there are alternatives, he considers the only one who presents himself chosen. The Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Ana Sánchez, assured this newspaper that after the conclusion these days of the renewal processes of the local groups, “we are on the starting track to work on the local candidacies; let's piece it together."

The socialist leader assured that they start with an advantage since the last elections gave them 16 of the 18 cities with more than 15,000 inhabitants and 62 percent of the municipalities with more than a thousand. "We have greater strength at the municipal level and we aspire to more, especially the Mayor's Office of Palencia." "We are going stronger, while others seek to associate to govern," she said in reference to PP and Vox. In this sense, she pointed out that the fear that the two formations add up and can take over the municipalities "is objective and is going to condition a lot." For this reason, she insisted that the socialist strategy will be to do politics "away from noise, dehumanized and from the thick line." Faced with this, she is committed to displaying management, especially where they govern, since "we are reinforced and it will be very difficult to compete." The intention of the PSOE, as is also the intention of the PP, is to appear in the 2,248 municipalities of the Community. Both formations consider that the fact that there are only municipal elections will make it possible.
