The mayor of Salamanca, on the Spanish Observatory in La Rioja: "It is a waste of time and money"

The mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, charged this Wednesday against the decision taken yesterday in the Council of Ministers by the Government of Spain to install the Global Observatory for Spanish in the autonomous community of La Rioja. An institution dependent on the Cervantes Institute for which almost four million euros are budgeted and to which the capital of Tormes opted, whose municipal government regretted the ministerial agreement today.

García Carbayo recalls that the title of the Castilian and Leonese municipality is, according to his words, 'Salamanca, city of Spanish' and resorted to irony to show his discomfort. «If a sailing school had to be created and I were the President of the Government of Spain, I would probably look, among other places, at Palma de Mallorca, to give an example.

If they decided to set up a sailing school in Salamanca, we would say that it was fine, but we would be very surprised”, he summarized.

The Salamancan alderman, who appears in the Urban Gardens of Salamanca to present his expansion project, considers that "the normal and sensible thing" would be to look towards the capital of Tormes "if it is about doing something related to Spanish", since otherwise, from his point of view, "is a waste of time and money."
