The Laurentian reserve: a popular destination

Of all the wildlife reserves in the network of the Society of Outdoor Establishments of Quebec (Sépaq), the Laurentides reserve remains one of the favorite destinations for fishing enthusiasts.

Each season, director Mathieu Caron tries to offer even more to amateurs, even if his fishing offer is well stocked.

Thus, he was able to see that fishing shelters are popular. They allow fishermen to relax a bit by the lake, light a fire and picnic without mosquitoes. In recent years, shelters of this type have been added to the reserve on the shores of certain lakes such as Lac à Jack, Lac Taurelle and Lac des Anémones.

By the way, a little secret to this lake, amateurs will find an initiation dock that extends into the lake to cast their line directly into a pit. Very convenient for small families.

Given the popularity of the shelters, four others of their kind will be built and will become accessible during the summer, to allow fishermen to make the most of their experience in the reserve. They will be erected at Lac Ailloux, at Lac Bonjour in the Gîte du Berger sector, at Lac Croche and in the Portes-de-l’Enfer sector.

THE GATES OF HELL

The main building of the Portes-de-l'Enfer has also had a makeover. Visitors will notice that renovations have been carried out in the dining room and on the main building. Due to the pandemic, several services had been modified at the pavilion. Now that the measures have been relaxed, fans will still have the choice of having dinner in their chalet, with delivery of stoves, or even having dinner in the newly renovated dining room.

It is certain that a fishing trip to the Portes-de-l’Enfer is more expensive, due to the quality of the services offered to the amateurs who frequent the sector. However, it is possible to fish at a low price in the Laurentides wildlife reserve. A good way to make a very economical stay is to live it in fishing-camping. It is the most affordable experience that allows you to outsmart the fish while spending a few nights in nature.

OTHER SOLUTIONS

If camping does not appeal to you, you can choose to increase the comfort of your stay, always with a view to a more economical stay, by choosing the ready-to-camp units accessible in the Brûlé, 'Step and Belle Rivière. These user-friendly units save the hassle of buying and transporting cooking and camping gear. Everything is already in place. These units also take the hassle out of setting up and taking down your tent. They offer more protection in case of rain.

In the Stage sector, a 2.2 kilometer trail has been developed. It will provide access to a gazebo that will be built this summer. It will offer a superb view of Lac Jacques-Cartier. You also have access to a beach on the shores of Lac Jacques-Cartier. We chose to build this trail to meet the expectations of amateurs who live in this area and who want several activities other than fishing.

Whatever your expectations for your fishing or camping trip, rest assured that in the Laurentian reserve, you will find what you are looking for.
