The judge investigating the mask case has summoned Matilde García Duarte, general coordinator of the Mayor's Office of Madrid and right-hand man of the alderman, José Luis Martínez Almeida, as a witness to explain the circumstances in which he provided the commission agent Luis Medina with the address of mail to which he had to send his offer to sell medical supplies in the middle of the first wave of the pandemic.

In a resolution to which ABC had access, Judge Adolfo Carretero thus attends to Garcia's statement as "pertinent and useful for the investigation", since she provided that email. The citation, however, does not yet have a date set. It will occur once the City Council provides the documentation required by the instructor.

Specifically, the exact address of that generic account and how it was advertised.

Likewise, the judge has ruled on a request from Más Madrid that requested to impute the mayor's cousin for a crime of fraud. When he ruled against citing him as an investigator and agreed to call him as a witness, he did not refer specifically to this crime, but to influence peddling, which he also ruled out. Now, the instructor expands his auto to specify that there is no indication of it either.

“If it has not been estimated that Mr. Carlos Martínez Almeida was charged with the crime of influence peddling because he did not contribute decisively to the conclusion of the contracts from which the alleged fraud derives, much less can he be cited as being investigated. for a crime of fraud, no matter how much the mail that was transferred to the commission agent would have been useful for contracting, ”says the resolution.

It emphasizes that this, "especially when there is no evidence whatsoever of the intervention of Mr. Martínez Almeida in the negotiation of the contracts subsequently and much less that he had any benefit from it, for which he can only be summoned as a witness in these proceedings ».
