The Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM) offers for the first time an international curriculum on artistic theories and practices in collaboration with the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia (UPV) and the Universitat de Valencia (UV) for 2022-2023.

The course, entitled 'Articulacions', is aimed at people with diverse backgrounds and professional orientation: students, artists, researchers, historians, sociologists, activists, curators, etc., who are interested in contemporary artistic practices, thought criticism, aesthetics and art histories. No prior qualification is required.

The program calendar, which runs from October 6, 2022 to June 30, 2023, is organized around three modules: 'Contemporary metabolic practices', 'Discourse breaks and remediations' and 'Walking with the head, thinking with your feet.

An expanded writing project (individual) and a programming, mediation, creation or performative project (collective) will shape the final projects of the first and second semester, respectively. In June 2023, presentations open to the public will be held as part of the programming of IVAM and its associated organizations.

Post-identity feminisms, popular and decolonial practices, globalization and virtuality processes, speculative and collective narratives or care for the planet are the frameworks that define the organization of the first edition of this project.

«The IVAM must be a space of knowledge that goes beyond disciplinary structures. Initiatives such as the study program 'Articulacions', in collaboration with the UV and the UPV, project the museum as a place of encounter and mediation with other knowledge and other processes", explained Nuria Enguita, director of the IVAM.

The Vice-Rector for Art, Science, Technology and Society of the UPV, Salomé Cuesta, stressed that "participating in 'Articulacions' means, first of all, establishing a strategic articulation between institutions, in order to network and coordinate efforts and resources. The museum and the public universities of Valencia have jointly devised an ambitious program in which knowledge and experiences are articulated from the dynamics of the present. We are facing a new stage that offers the entire artistic and visual community the possibility of making, learning and sharing new forms of knowledge.

For her part, the vice-rector for Culture and Sport at the University of Valencia, Ester Alba, stressed that the program lays the foundation in practice through experience and dynamic training. «The IVAM recovers, together with the universities, its character as an institute in order to serve as a boost to the art system, from a holistic dimension, targeting a sector made up of people trained in various areas of knowledge in the field of art and culture. . The possibility of generating a training that allows updating the different professional profiles opens a new perspective to the link between universities and society and its institutions », she clarifies.

The participating universities will issue the UV Continuing Education Certificate (30 ECTS) and the UPV University Extension Diploma (30 ECTS) to the participants. The program is designed to be taken jointly and consecutively at the IVAM, in person. Each university will certify one semester of it. In addition to the teaching classes, the methodology is articulated through workshops, seminars, talks, conferences and practical sessions, which will open new paths to understand the history of art and its contexts.

'Articulacions' requires a commitment to attend and the preparation of a final project in agreement with the teaching staff. These final projects will materialize in the IVAM and in associated organizations, and will offer the attendees the possibility of carrying out a real programmatic practice.

People who wish to participate must submit an application by attaching a letter of interest (maximum one page) and/or presentation video (maximum two minutes) to the email address coord_ext_articulacions@ivam.es. In the admission process, those who communicate their willingness to enroll in both certifications will be favorably valued. The registration fee for each of the certifications is 950 euros, and the total price of the program amounts to 1,900 euros. There are two scholarships available to guarantee access to students with financial difficulties. More information on the IVAM website.
