The IVAM Alcoi investigates the meanings of the contemporary through a hundred works

The director of the Valencian Institute of Modern Art, Nuria Enguita, the councilor of Culture of the Alcoy City Council, Raül Llopis, the curator of the exhibition, Diana Guijarro, and the regional director of the Alicante center of Fundación Banco Sabadell, Ana Ponsoda, they have presented the sample «An indefinitely smooth common continuum. Screenings on the contemporary in the IVAM collection », already open to the public at the museum's Alcoy headquarters.

«The common thread that articulates this exhibition revolves around the concept of the contemporary: how can we approach this term and its complexity through the narrative that is configured with the selection of pieces from the IVAM Collection, understanding said collection as a historical and social construction”, commented the director of the IVAM.

The exhibition brings together a total of 117 works, mostly from the IVAM collection, by artists such as Bruce Nauman, Julio González, Sonia Delaunay, Marcel Duchamp, Grete Stern, Dan Graham, Richard Prince and Sanja Ivekovic. «The exhibition invites us to look at the pieces from a much broader and more complex perspective to ask ourselves questions: What is the role of the museum in the contemporary world? What are the mechanisms by which it moves? What role do artists play? », explains Enguita. And, above all, "the question is no longer to define what is contemporary, the interesting thing is to discover when it is."

The exhibition has the collaboration of the Banco Sabadell Foundation, whose representative Ana Ponsoda highlighted in the presentation the commitment of this entity to the IVAM, "a place of reference that is committed to high-level and prestigious exhibitions that make it a benchmark in the cultural scene not only in Alcoi and the Valencian Community, but also outside it».

The Councilor for Culture, Raül Llopis, has highlighted the importance of the collaboration with the IVAM "which has materialized in seven exhibitions over four years and which have fully consolidated the IVAM Alcoi project".

The exhibition will remain open to the public until February 12, 2023 at IVAM Alcoi.
