The heat wave reaches the north: Temperatures up to 42 degrees for the weekend

The north of Spain has been the envy of the rest of Spain in recent days. While others melted in the face of the high temperatures that the first heat wave of the summer is leaving, in the Basque Country the thermometers have barely exceeded 25 degrees and in the afternoons you could walk in the cool of the sea breeze. Although the forecasts announce a radical change in the next few hours.

The Basque Government has activated the yellow warning for high temperatures in inland areas for Wednesday afternoon. At noon, municipalities such as Orduña or Llodio were already close to 30 degrees and the mercury is expected to rise above 35 degrees throughout the afternoon.

Although it will be on Thursday when the alert is generalized to the entire territory with temperatures that will exceed 38ºC in the interior and that will touch 30ºC on the coast.

It will also be the prelude to unusual heat for this time of year, which could shoot temperatures above 40 degrees over the weekend. From Euskalmet they assure that it is an "unusual" phenomenon due to the high temperatures and because it occurs in the first half of June.

The situation will be more oppressive the further we get from the coast. In any case, from the Basque Government they have called for prudence. They ask to avoid the central hours of the day, drink plenty of water and, above all, be aware of vulnerable people such as children or the elderly. In addition, the Bilbao City Council has installed seven provisional fountains throughout the city so that Bilbao residents and visitors can cool off in the event of high temperatures.
