The equivalent of 580 million euros: London wants to support Kiev with further military aid

“Defending Ukraine against Russia’s brutal ambitions is vital to our security and to all of Europe,” Sunak said ahead of his trip. If Russian President Vladimir Putin is successful, "he will not stop at the Polish border."

Russia began the war of aggression against Ukraine in February 2022. For months, the Russian army has been on the offensive at various points along the approximately 1,000-kilometer-long front line in the east and south of Ukraine. The Ukrainian army is suffering from a shortage of ammunition and difficulties recruiting new soldiers. Ukraine is expecting an even stronger Russian summer offensive in the coming months.

On Saturday, after months of blockade, the US House of Representatives launched an aid package worth around $61 billion (around €57 billion) for Ukraine. The Senate still has to deal with the package on Tuesday and give its approval before it can be signed into law by US President Joe Biden.
