The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands reports two more positive cases of monkeypox confirmed today in people living in Tenerife whose samples had been sent yesterday to the National Center for Microbiology.

This means that there is a total of four confirmed cases in the Canary Islands, one in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife, since the beginning of the declaration of the health alert.

Also, evidence of three new cases of monkeypox will be sent for study. These are men who are progressing favorably and whose samples will be sent for study to the National Center for Microbiology. Two of the cases have been classified as probable because they meet the clinical and epidemiological criteria, while the third is a suspected case because it only presents clinical criteria.

Since the beginning of the health alert, there have been four confirmed cases in the Canary Islands, one in Gran Canaria and three in Tenerife, four probable cases pending confirmation and three suspected cases pending confirmation, all males with a favorable evolution.

The protocol of the Ministry of Health classifies cases between probable and suspected depending on whether the patient meets clinical criteria and epidemiological criteria (probable cases) or if it only presents clinical criteria and in such case it is considered a suspected case.
