The Castilla y León Bullfighting Award has been awarded in its seventh edition, corresponding to the year 2021, in the Bullfighting Bolsín of Ciudad Rodrigo on the occasion of its "altruistic and remarkable work in defense of Bullfighting".

It is one of the aspects highlighted by the jury, who recalled that throughout the contest's 65-year history, its main objective "has always been the promotion of the new values of bullfighting in complex times, where the applicants have had few opportunities to carve out a future as bullfighters", detailed the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in a statement.

In it, it is recalled that the Bullfighting Bolsín of Ciudad Rodrigo was created in the 1950s, with the ranchers and the Ciudad Rodrigo city council selflessly contributing the means to help the maletillas by offering them shelter, food and cattle groping, in the difficult almost marginal situation in which they found themselves, (they were persecuted by the well-known law of vagrants and thugs).

"Currently, this cooperation is extended to most of the farmers in the province of Salamanca, having initially held the position of patriarch of the farmers, the late Antonio Pérez de San Fernando, and currently Antonio Pérez Tabernero who assumes responsibility."

The Bolsín has also stood out - the statement continues - for promoting the cultural promotion of Bullfighting, carrying out presentations of literary publications, cultural evenings and the cultural prize-giving gala.

The Castilla y León Bullfighting Award was created by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2015 to distinguish the professional career, merits, activities or initiatives of people, entities or institutions that have contributed to the promotion of Bullfighting in Castilla y León. León, thus collaborating with the dissemination of its historical and cultural values. This prize is awarded annually, and in previous editions the winners have been Santiago Martín Sánchez 'El Viti', posthumously, the bullfighter Víctor Barrio, the rancher Juan Ignacio Pérez-Tabernero, the Encierros de Cuéllar, the Bullfighting School of Salamanca and in its latest edition the Zamorano master Andrés Mazariegos Vázquez, 'Andrés Vázquez'.

This year's jury has been chaired by the Segovian master Andrés Hernando García, and has been part of it, Carlos de la Casa Martínez, head of the Territorial Service of Culture and Tourism of Soria; Santos Garcia Catalán, bullfighting journalist and writer; Jose Luis Lera Valles, journalist and dean of bullfighting criticism from Valladolid; Alejandro Marcos Iglesias, bullfighter; Carlos Martín Santoyo, director of TV 8 Palencia, of Diario Palentino and director and presenter of the bullfighting program 'Grana y Oro'; María Jesus Muñiz Prieto, head of the local and economy section of Diario de León; Ana Pedrero Rojo, bullfighting critic and commentator for the ABC newspaper; Francisco Salamanca Llorente, veterinarian and president of the bullfighting club 'El Encierro', in Cuellar, and Miguel Ángel Salinas Ibañez, writer and bullfighting fan.
