“The best handball campus in Spain” arrives with Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas

45 percent of the places on the IV Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas handball campus, which will take place in Toledo from June 26 to July 2, will be reserved for young people from Castile-La Mancha, who will also have a 30 percent discount in the quota to be able to participate in it.

This was highlighted this Monday by the general director of Youth and Sports, Carlos Yuste, during the presentation of this campus, in which the international goalkeeper of the Spanish team and Barcelona, Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas, also participated; and the Councilor for Sports of the Toledo City Council, Pablo García.

Yuste has detailed that both this reservation of places and the discounts are possible due to the agreement reached by the regional government with the player himself.

And he has announced that “a boy and a girl from our region will be awarded scholarships who have a lot of projection in the field of handball, with a good academic record and who, due to social or economic circumstances, cannot assume the full registration of this campus ».

Players from the Asobal League of the stature of Iker Serrano (Benidorm), Marc García (Granollers), and Emma Boada (Bera Bera player) will participate in this campus; or technicians such as Vicente Álamo (former player and coach of Stuttgart) and Maria Cadens (physical trainer of the 'Guerreras'). The participation of technicians from the autonomous community is also planned.

For the general director, the regional capital once again hosts "the best handball campus in Spain" for players between 8 and 17 years old. And he thanked Pérez de Vargas for once again betting on the city where he was born to carry out this project, in which values such as "effort, self-improvement or teamwork" are promoted. "It constitutes a brand of the region and the City Council," added Councilor Pablo García.

This year there will be 96 participants, compared to 88 last year. The quota has been full for "about three or four months, and there is a waiting list of more than 40 people," said Pérez de Vargas. The goalkeeper has moved directly to Toledo after playing yesterday in the Asobal Cup in Zaragoza where Barça beat Bidasoa Irún 29-37.

He has assured that this personal project "would not be possible if it were not for the help of the Board and the City Council", and has bet that this "synergy will work for years".

Both the training sessions and the matches will take place in the Santa Bárbara and Rafael del Pino sports complexes, and the participants will once again be housed in the San Servando castle, which was awarded hostel of the year 2021.
