The Army opens the doors of the El Bruc barracks throughout the weekend

On the occasion of Armed Forces Day, open days were inaugurated in Barcelona this Friday at the El Bruc barracks. Throughout the morning crowds of onlookers roamed the streets of Pedralbes and awaited the opening of the military facility, which can be visited throughout the weekend.

The general public entered the barracks at 1:00 p.m., but the act began an hour and a half earlier, at 11:30 a.m., when the Military Commander of Barcelona and Tarragona, Joaquín Broch Hueso, arrived at the facilities to inaugurate the event. There he has been received by the different civil and military authorities in the auditorium, where Lieutenant Colonel Carmelo has explained the itinerary of the day.

A quarter of an hour later, the delegation visited the Barcelona Military History Library, strolled through the parade ground and attended demonstrations by the different units of the army and the Civil Guard. The itinerary continued with the concert by the Music Unit of the General Inspectorate of the Army, the parade of soldiers from the Barcelona Regiment and the subsequent raising of the flag with which the event ended and the opening of the doors to the public.

"I am sure that this weekend of open doors will be a complete success," said General Broch Hueso, who explained that the aim of this act is to bring the armed forces and the rest of the security forces closer to the public of the state.

As of 1:00 p.m., people have begun to enter the barracks. The time was not the best, the children were still at school and the sun was pressing down hard. In spite of everything, several dozen people have gathered at the door. Most of them were older people, nostalgic for all corners of Spain who once did their military service in El Bruc, or simply wanted to visit it for one reason or another.

"My father was a soldier and it is always nice to remember old times," says Jorge Pasadas, one of the visitors who arrived at Bruc early in the morning. "We have to defend and admire our institutions, and the army is one of them," he remarks.

Adriana Pisfil is another of the visitors who was hanging around the parade ground at 1:30 p.m. «I am Peruvian and in my country I did a military training. I came here to meet other armies », she explains. When asked what she liked the most about the open doors, she replied that she was impressed with the weapons on display and the architecture of the barracks, famous for its crenellated outline, like a medieval fortress.

Starting in the afternoon, with the closing of the schools, the first creatures have begun to arrive. The open doors are largely geared towards this public, with different activities such as a children's obstacle course, a dog show, and a large number of military vehicles scattered throughout the parade ground, as well as a recreation of the Antarctic base of the Army or an aerial demonstration of the Seprona drone.

For lovers of cartography and military history, the Library of the barracks has a multitude of old maps of the entire Spanish geography as well as the main campaigns since the 16th century, a multitude of books on the military history of Spain, decorations and old weapons exposed in the showcases.

As a complement to the open doors of the El Bruc barracks, this morning the patrol ship 'Infanta Cristina' of the Navy, which will remain in the port of the city of Barcelona until Sunday 29, has docked at the North Barcelona dock. It is also possible to visit it walk-ins this Friday between 4:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and between 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and Sunday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. :00.
