Television: Ratings success for the Champions League final, and the closing of Cannes

Two events from the evening were broadcast live on Saturday on television. This was a significantly higher audience than last year. The Cannes closing ceremony was broadcast live on France 2 this year and is no longer encrypted on Canal.

The match at European football's top, in which Real Madrid beat Liverpool (1-0), was viewed by 5.9M viewers on TF1 (33.34% audience share) as well as 1.06 Million on Canal (66% audience share).

Broadcast from 9:37 to 11:30 p.m. It was delayed by scenes of chaos at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis. This was due to the influx in support and poor organizations of tens to thousands.

This brings together the viewers of both channels to 6.06 million, which is significantly higher than the 2.4million recorded last year for Chelsea's final. The TNT channel RMC Story broadcast the show.

The award ceremony for the most prestigious festival of film in the world was viewed on France 2 by 3.23 millions viewers (17.4% audience share). It aired between 8:30 and 9:50 p.m., which is a bit later than previous years.

This audience is three times larger than the Canal audience last year (875,000), which is a new record. It was 2.2 million viewers when "La vie d’Adele" was coronated by Abdellatif Kchiche in 2013. Also, in 2006, "Le vent se leve", by Ken Loach, had been awarded the Golden Palm.

After several years of declining attendance, the 2019 closing ceremony attracted 845,000 viewers. It had only attracted 744,000 viewers in 2018. The Cannes opening ceremony attracted 1.77 million viewers on May 17.
