Borussia Düsseldorf can hope for triumph in the Champions League. The Rhinelanders won the final first leg at Bundesliga rivals 1. FC Saarbrücken 3-2 on Friday evening, even without their injured veteran Timo Boll. The second leg will take place in Düsseldorf next Monday.

In front of around 1600 spectators, the decision was only made in the final duel between the two European team champions, Patrick Franziska (Saarbrücken) and Dang Qiu. In a dramatic match, the man from Düsseldorf, who also became individual European champion last year, kept the upper hand 3-1 and gave his team victory.
