On Friday - the last day of school before the Bavarian carnival holidays - the airport had completely stopped regular passenger operations because of the warning strike called by the Verdi union. The strike thwarted the travel plans of around 90,000 Munich passengers. According to the airport, more than 700 take-offs and landings were planned for Friday.

Several large airports in Germany were largely paralyzed by the industrial action on Friday. The Verdi union had called for an all-day walkout to increase the pressure on employers in several ongoing collective bargaining rounds.
