You will find what you are looking for in several places in Germany. Many federal states have even created special star parks in which everything revolves around the intensive experience under a clear starry sky. We briefly introduce you to the most beautiful star parks in Germany. So that you know where to get the best view of the stars on the next clear winter day.
Sternenpark Winklmoos-Alm, Bayern
The Dark Sky area awarded by the "International Dark Sky Association" is located in the middle of the Chiemgau Alps, around 60 kilometers from Salzburg. Due to the height of 1,200 meters, stargazers can have an unrestricted view of up to 5,000 stars. Guided star explorations are also offered in summer, where experts explain the constellations to visitors.
Sternenpark Westhavelland, Brandenburg
Admire the Milky Way in all its splendor not far from our capital Berlin - this is possible in the Westhavelland Star Park. Located in the middle of the nature park of the same name, fans of cultivated stargazing can take a look at the clear sky here at any time of the day or night.
Star Park Island of Pellworm, Schleswig-Holstein
The North Sea island is considered one of the darkest places in Germany - and thus also offers unique views of the starry sky. The island has been certified as a dark sky area since 2021. For example, the street lighting was minimized. A little bonus for romantics: the sound of the sea accompanies the gaze at the stars.
Star Park Eifel National Park, North Rhine-Westphalia
More than 100 square kilometers of complete darkness: The star park in the middle of the Eifel is one of the most popular of its kind in Germany for good reason. From a total of five vantage points, stargazers can gaze across the forest into the sky and marvel at the Milky Way and other constellations.
Star Island Spiekeroog, Lower Saxony
Few residents, surrounded by the Wadden Sea and lots of nature: the North Sea island of Spiekeroog is one of the darkest places in our country. The residents are proud that they see one thing above all at night: the starry sky. Since August 2022, the island has also officially been one of the hotspots for stargazers in Germany - and is definitely worth a visit.
Star Park Mecklenburg Parkland, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania
Stargazing and learning something at the same time has been possible in this star park since 2021. With the help of special observation spots and informational material, visitors are guided along a star trail that brings them closer to the stars - while strolling under the clear starry sky.
Observatory St. Andreasberg, Lower Saxony
Intensive encounters with the stars for everyone, that's what the owners of the St. Andreasberg observatory are committed to. The observation point in the middle of the Harz National Park is Germany's first barrier-free facility of its kind. In addition to normal stargazing, there are also regular guided tours and readings about the starry sky.
Star Park Swabian Alb, Baden-Württemberg
Those who are really serious about stargazing are in the right place here: The Swabian Alb Star Park not only offers a fantastic view of the dark starry sky, but is also surrounded by a total of 13 observatories. The location in the biosphere reserve of the same name and covering more than 800 square kilometers provides the best conditions for a clear and starry night.
