Spanish hotels added 25 million nights in April, six times more than in 2021

Overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments reached 25.1 million in April, which meant multiplying by six the 4.1 million in the same month of 2021. According to data released this Tuesday by the INE, the overnight stays of travelers residing in Spain exceeded 10.2 million, which represents 40.7% of the total. On the other hand, those of non-residents were above 14.9 million.

For its part, the average stay increased by 37.1% compared to April 2021, standing at 2.9 overnight stays per traveler.

During the first four months of 2022, overnight stays increased by 430.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

As in 2021 Holy Week was celebrated between March and April and in 2022 in April, it is convenient to analyze the aggregate period March-April.

It shows a growth in overnight stays of 453.4% ​​compared to the same two-month period in 2021.

In April, 55.9% of the places offered were covered, with an annual increase of 164.4%. The weekend occupancy rate by bedplaces rose 141.4% and stood at 61.8%.

Travelers from the United Kingdom and Germany accounted for 23.3% and 19%, respectively, of the total overnight stays by non-residents in hotel establishments in April.

Overnight stays by travelers from France, the Netherlands and Italy (the following source markets) accounted for 10%, 5% and 4% of the total, respectively.

The annual rate of the Hotel Price Index (HPI) stood at 29.5% in April, which is 49.4 points above that registered in the same month of 2021, and 7 points more than that registered in March of this year.

The average daily turnover of hotels for each occupied room (ADR) is 96.3 euros in April, which represents an increase of 36.3% compared to the same month in 2021.

For its part, the average daily income per available room (RevPAR), which is conditioned by the occupancy registered in hotel establishments, reached 59.6 euros, with an increase of 209.3%.

By category, the average billing is 226.5 euros for five-star hotels, 100.4 euros for four-star hotels and 73.5 euros for three-star hotels. The income per available room for these same categories is 145.7, 68.2 and 46.3 euros, respectively.
