Before the start of the trial in the case of a tourist from Fulda who was killed, two suspects filed bail applications in a court in South Africa on Thursday. The district court in the small town of Kabokweni in the north-east of the country announced that the applications would be decided on April 26.

A total of three men between the ages of 25 and 38 are currently in custody. Another suspect's bail application had already been denied.

On October 3, the three suspects are said to have attacked the 67-year-old from Fulda and three other Germans on the way to a safari lodge in the famous Kruger National Park in the north-east of the country. When the tourists refused to get out of the car and locked the doors shortly before the Numbi entrance to the national park, one of the perpetrators opened fire on the driver, police said. The 67-year-old died. The three suspects are charged with murder, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping. The case drew national attention.

Although South Africa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Africa, it also has a high crime rate. Last year, the number of violent crimes in the country with around 60 million inhabitants rose again. According to government figures, more than 7,000 people were killed between the beginning of July and the end of September alone.
