Sotheby's: Jordan sneakers could fetch millions at auction

An auction house estimates that a pair of sports shoes belonging to ex-basketball star Michael Jordan (60) could fetch up to four million dollars (about 3.7 million euros) at an auction in New York. The auction house Sotheby's announced that Jordan wore the black and red sneakers for the Chicago Bulls in the final of the US basketball league NBA in 1998. The shoes will be auctioned in New York in April.

Unusual sneakers have recently made headlines at auctions because high prices were achieved. In October 2021, for example, Sotheby's auctioned off a pair of Jordan sneakers that the ex-basketball pro wore in his first NBA season for around $1.5 million. A pair of shoes worn by US rapper Kanye West at the 2008 Grammy Awards brought in $1.8 million.
