It's about "Our song for Liverpool": For the first time, one of the acts is nominated via the social network Tiktok for the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC). This was announced by the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) on Wednesday in Hamburg. With its striking videos in portrait format, Tiktok is aimed at a very young target group. But singers and bands can now also submit their songs via video via eurovision.de. "Pop or country, electro or R'n'B, Schlager or rock: there are no limits to the musical styles," according to the NDR.

If you choose the way via Tiktok, you have to use the hashtag

From all applications, a team of experts is looking for acts for the preliminary decision “Eurovision Song Contest 2023 – Our Song for Liverpool”, which is scheduled to run in early March. How many acts will make it to the preliminary decision will be determined after all contributions have been viewed. The show decides who will travel to Great Britain for Germany at the ESC 2023. The ARD pop radio stations - Antenne Brandenburg, Bayern 3, Bremen Vier, hr3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR 3 and WDR 2 - invite their listeners to vote online for their favorite act. The result is included in the overall ranking in the preliminary round.

For years, the ARD has been hoping to end Germany's bad luck with ever new variants. This year Malik Harris came last with his song "Rockstars". Before that, the Hamburg singer Jendrik had landed in Rotterdam in 25th place and thus in the penultimate place. At the ESC 2019 (before a compulsory Corona break), the duo S!sters with "Sister" also only got the penultimate place, as did Levina in 2017. Several others felt the same way.

The Eurovision Song Contest is considered the largest music event in the world with more than 200 million people watching. The final is scheduled for May 13 in Liverpool, England. The BBC organizes the ESC instead of the Ukrainian broadcaster UA:PBC - the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won the ESC this year. In view of the war, however, Great Britain stepped in. As one of the biggest sponsors of the spectacle, Germany is set for the final.
