Society: Survey: Half of adults do little or no exercise

Cycling, running, fitness - according to a study, Germany is divided into two parts when it comes to sport: a good half of adults do sport regularly, slightly less than half do it rarely or not at all. The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) presented corresponding survey results on Wednesday. In May, the opinion research institute Forsa asked a good 1,700 adults about their sports and exercise behavior.

52 percent of those over 18 said they do at least one to three hours of sport a week. 45 percent said they rarely or never exercised. After all: the ratio has reversed compared to 2013. At that time, according to TK data, athletes were still slightly in the minority at 46 percent and non-sportspeople were in the majority at 52 percent.

According to the study, around a third of Germans move too little in everyday life. 30 percent of those surveyed stated that they were active on their feet for less than half an hour a day, for example on foot or on a bike. "In our study, we see clear effects from Corona," said TK boss Jens Baas. 26 percent of those surveyed said that they moved less during the pandemic than before.
