Soccer: Sports director Werner leaves Carl Zeiss Jena

The personnel whirl continues at football regional league club FC Carl Zeiss Jena. After the release of coach Andreas Patz and the engagement of interim coach Henning Bürger, sports director Tobias Werner is now leaving the club. The club announced on Tuesday. Patz was relieved of his duties on Sunday, Bürger took up his post on Monday. Werner asked for his contract to be terminated in order to "face a new professional challenge" from December 1st.

"We have complied with Tobias Werner's request, especially since he took on responsibility in a complicated situation when he came to Jena. He rose to the challenge under the given conditions, for which we thank him," said Managing Director Chris Förster. Werner decided to take the next step.

Werner said the decision had matured in him for a long time. The FCC, which started the season with promotion ambitions, is now not only looking for a coach, but also a sports director. Ideally, both will take office by the beginning of January at the latest.
