Sir Rod Stewart (78) had to cancel his performance on Saturday in Geelong, Australia, as part of the "A Day On The Green" tour with Cyndi Lauper (69) and Jon Stevens (60) due to illness. His fans were informed about the sudden illness via Instagram.

"Live Nation and Roundhouse Entertainment regret to announce that Rod Stewart, Cyndi Lauper and Jon Stevens are unable to perform tonight's performance at Mt. Duneed Estate, Geelong due to illness," the statement said. "We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience to ticket holders. A further announcement regarding concert arrangements will be made early next week." The statement was posted alongside a broken heart emoji.

In a subsequent Instagram post, the British music star addressed his followers personally. He revealed that he can no longer sing due to a virus infection.

"Hello my friends," he wrote on Instagram. "I am absolutely devastated that I have to disappoint my fans who bought tickets for 'A Day On The Green'. I was told this morning that I have a viral infection and my throat is too sore to sing. " He also asked for understanding: "I'm only human and sometimes I get sick, just like you do. My greatest joy is performing for you, so I'm doing everything I can to recover and get back on to be able to do the stage."

Some fans backed Stewart by reporting vocal difficulties at concerts earlier in the week. "You could see he was struggling towards the end on Tuesday night but it was still a brilliant concert," commented one fan. Another added, "Take it easy Rod! We totally get it! We all want it to happen to you soon." going well again and you're doing your best for it." A third wrote: "You are in our hearts and in our souls. Get well soon! God bless you."

It is still unclear how the illness will affect the rest of the tour. The next scheduled appearance would be on Tuesday in Adelaide.
