The majority of reported incidents were reported to be simple physical injuries such as bumping, hitting and spitting. They account for 79 percent of assaults. According to Bahn, around 15 percent were attempted attacks. With a share of around six percent, serious physical injuries were the exception rather than the rule. About half of all attacks affected train crews in regional transport.

According to Bahn, one of the main reasons for the attacks was a dispute over the enforcement of the corona protection measures. In addition, more football fans were out and about again and there were particularly full trains during the three-month period of the nine-euro ticket.
