Seven motorists hit a lamp post that had just been mowed down by a completely drunk driver, late Tuesday evening, in Gatineau.

At around 11:30 p.m., the driver, a 36-year-old man from Montreal, veered off the road while traveling on Highway 50, near the exit leading to Saint-Louis Street.

When he lost control, he hit a lamppost which fell on the road. His car ended up in the ditch.

“Subsequently, seven vehicles struck the lamp post which had ended up on the road, causing damage to the vehicles. No one was injured,” said Sergeant Marc Tessier, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

Once there, the police arrested the driver at the origin of all this commotion. The latter had a blood alcohol level that was nearly three times the legal limit.

The man was released with a promise to appear at a later date. His driver's license was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was towed.
