Record: Warmest night at the end of October: 18.5 degrees measured in Werl

Friday night was the warmest ever measured in Germany at the end of October. The leader was Werl in North Rhine-Westphalia. There, the temperature did not drop below 18.5 degrees. "That's only 1.5 degrees below a tropical night," said Andreas Friedrich from the German Weather Service (DWD) on Friday in Offenbach.

The previous record in the third decade of October was set more than half a century ago on October 24, 1966 in Lahr in Baden-Württemberg with 16.7 degrees. "This shows that we are currently experiencing an extremely mild October," said Friedrich. As soon as the temperatures between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. do not fall below 20 degrees, meteorologists speak of a tropical night.
